A court in the Argentine city of Rosario has handed down a guilty verdict against the criminal who terrorized the family of legendary Argentina winger Ángel Di María and openly threatened to kill his young daughter.

Details: Forty-five-year-old Sergio Di Vanni was found guilty on a number of serious criminal charges and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. Terrifying threats were directed at the footballer back in 2024, when the World Cup winner publicly announced plans to return to his boyhood club, Rosario Central, triggering an aggressive reaction from local criminal groups.

The footballer himself previously revealed the horrifying details of the ordeal:

“They attacked the real estate agency owned by my sister and left a pig’s head with a bullet hole in its forehead at the entrance to the building. There was a note saying that if I returned to Rosario Central, my daughter Pia’s head would be next.”

In addition, the criminals opened targeted fire in the area of the residential complex where Di María owns a family property. Although the threats initially forced the player to postpone his return home for the safety of his loved ones, he eventually returned to Rosario Central in 2025 and helped the team win the long-awaited Argentine championship title.

It is worth noting that Ángel Di María is a legend of South American football, having etched his name into history with decisive goals in the victorious finals of the Olympic Games, the Copa América, the Finalissima and the World Cup in Qatar.
