No room for a shock? Prediction for Le Havre vs PSG
On October 30, Le Havre will host the reigning French Ligue 1 champions, PSG, in the ninth round. The teams sit at opposite ends of the table: the hosts are bottom with two points, while the Parisians lead the league after an impressive winning run. Can Didier Digard's side stop the in-form favorites?
Le Havre: plenty of character, but still no results
After eight rounds, Le Havre are five points adrift of the relegation playoff zone. Despite their disastrous start, the team has occasionally shown character against strong opponents. The northern side drew with Lyon (1-1), suffered a narrow defeat to Monaco, and came close to salvaging a result against Marseille in the previous round, cutting a 0-4 deficit to 3-4.
Didier Digard has returned to a three-center-back system in an effort to shore up the defense. However, the squad remains plagued by problems: Elias Yelert, Timothee Pembele, Stéphane Zagadou and goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi-Nzau are injured. Ayumu Seko will also miss the match. Josh Maja, meanwhile, is pushing for a place in the starting lineup after scoring twice against Marseille.
PSG: eight straight wins and confidence restored
Luis Enrique's side have overcome their poor start to the season and hit an impressive run of form. The Parisians have won eight matches in a row in all competitions, including victories over Manchester City (4-2) and Barcelona (4-2) in the Champions League. In the league, PSG defeated Marseille (2-1) before comfortably seeing off Lyon (2-0).
The win over Lyon was particularly important for the defense: it was only the second time this season that the Parisians kept a clean sheet. At the same time, their list of absentees remains significant. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Marquinhos, Ousmane Dembele and Nuno Mendes are unavailable, but the lack of European action this week will allow Enrique to avoid extensive rotation.
Match facts and head-to-head record
- PSG have won their last eight matches in all competitions
- Le Havre have not beaten PSG since the last century and have not taken points off the Parisians at home since 1999
- Only one team has scored in six of the last nine meetings between the sides
The visitors' class leaves no room for doubt: prediction for Le Havre vs PSG
Le Havre are capable of causing problems for favorites, as their match against Marseille showed. However, an inconsistent defense and numerous injuries make the task considerably more difficult. Against PSG, the hosts will have to spend most of the match defending and rely on rare counterattacks.
The Parisians are in excellent form, playing with confidence in attack and gradually fixing their defensive mistakes. Even without several key players, Enrique's team are significantly superior in terms of individual quality. We expect the visitors to seize the initiative early and secure a convincing result.
