Goodbye, San Siro? Milan and Inter reveal shocking new name for their futuristic 71,500-seat stadium
A historic transformation is coming to Italian football! AC Milan and Inter have revealed the name of their future shared home, and one of football's most iconic stadium identities is set for a dramatic change. The new arena will be called Generali Stadium, marking the beginning of a new era for the Milan giants.
Details: According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the name was announced on October 29 during a presentation at Milan's Castello Sforzesco. The new stadium will accommodate 71,500 spectators and feature an oval, bowl-shaped structure with two tiers designed to bring supporters closer to the action.
One of the most striking elements will be the stands behind both goals. These sections are planned to have an extraordinary 37-degree incline, inspired by Borussia Dortmund's famous Yellow Wall. The steep design should create an intimidating atmosphere while giving supporters an exceptional view of the pitch.
The architectural project is being developed by Foster + Partners and MANICA. Beyond the stadium itself, the surrounding area will include commercial spaces, restaurants and entertainment facilities, transforming the historic San Siro district into a modern destination.
The new Generali Stadium is expected to open for the 2031/32 season, with construction planned to begin in 2027. Milan and Inter are also targeting the arena's completion ahead of Euro 2032. Meanwhile, the legendary Giuseppe Meazza Stadium faces partial demolition, bringing an emotional chapter of football history closer to its end.
Reminder: Historic deal! Milan and Inter officially acquire San Siro as part of their ambitious redevelopment plans.
