The Los Angeles Clippers will host the New Orleans Pelicans at Intuit Dome in Inglewood on November 8, with tip-off scheduled for 9:00 PM Eastern Time (November 9 in Europe). The two Western Conference teams have experienced contrasting starts to the 2026/27 NBA season. While New Orleans have recovered from a disastrous opening stretch, the Clippers remain in serious trouble, having won just one of their first eight games.

LA Clippers: Seven consecutive defeats expose major problems

The Clippers entered the new season with an almost completely rebuilt roster, but the early results have been extremely disappointing. Tyronn Lue's team opened their campaign with a convincing 121-96 victory over Sacramento before suffering seven consecutive defeats.

Their latest setback came against the Miami Heat, who escaped Intuit Dome with a narrow 117-116 overtime victory. Darius Garland delivered an impressive performance with 26 points, while Rui Hachimura contributed 21 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Nevertheless, Los Angeles once again failed to secure a victory despite remaining competitive until the final moments.

The team's problems extend beyond individual performances. The Clippers average just 109.1 points per game, one of the lowest offensive figures in the NBA, while allowing opponents to score 115.6. Their negative scoring differential illustrates the difficulties they have experienced on both ends of the court.

Garland has emerged as the main offensive leader, averaging 20.9 points and 6.6 assists per game. However, the absence of several important players has significantly reduced Lue's options.

Brandon Ingram remains sidelined while recovering from an Achilles injury, Bradley Beal is unavailable because of a knee problem, Jordan Miller continues his rehabilitation following shoulder surgery, and Yanic Konan Niederhauser is also out with a foot injury.

The Clippers still possess enough individual quality to challenge New Orleans, particularly through Garland's creativity, Hachimura's versatility and Brook Lopez's experience. However, their defensive inconsistency and frequent turnovers remain major concerns.

New Orleans Pelicans: An attacking revival under Jamahl Mosley

New Orleans have enjoyed a considerably more encouraging period. After losing their first four games of the season, the Pelicans responded with four consecutive victories, defeating Sacramento, Atlanta, Memphis and Utah.

That impressive run ended on November 6, when Minnesota secured a 115-109 victory in New Orleans. Jeremiah Fears was the Pelicans' standout performer with 24 points, while Karlo Matković added 18 and Saddiq Bey contributed 17.

Despite the defeat, the team's recent improvement is difficult to ignore. Under new head coach Jamahl Mosley, who took charge in May, New Orleans have developed a more productive offensive approach.

The Pelicans currently average 120.2 points per game, compared with the Clippers' 109.1. Their ability to attack the basket, create opportunities in transition and distribute scoring responsibilities across several players gives them a significant offensive advantage.

Zion Williamson remains one of the team's primary attacking weapons, averaging around 21.5 points per game. Trey Murphy III provides perimeter shooting, while Dejounte Murray and the emerging Fears offer different solutions in the backcourt.

There are still defensive weaknesses, with New Orleans conceding 118.8 points per game. However, the Pelicans have demonstrated a greater ability to maintain offensive pressure throughout matches.

Yves Missi remains sidelined with a knee injury, while Murphy has recently been managing a knee tendon issue. The latter returned to action against Minnesota, providing an important boost to the rotation.

Match facts and head-to-head statistics

  • The Clippers have lost seven consecutive games since winning their season opener.
  • Los Angeles have suffered five defeats in their last five matches.
  • New Orleans have won four of their last five games.
  • The Pelicans average 120.2 points per game, compared with 109.1 for the Clippers.
  • New Orleans have won the last two head-to-head meetings, defeating Los Angeles 124-109 and 105-99 in March 2026.
  • The Clippers have lost their last three home games.

Can the Pelicans extend the Clippers' losing streak? Match prediction

Although the Clippers have the advantage of playing at home, their recent results provide little reason for confidence. Seven consecutive defeats have exposed problems in defensive organization, ball security and offensive consistency.

Los Angeles certainly have the individual talent to produce a response. Garland is capable of taking control of a game, while Hachimura and Lopez provide valuable offensive support. The Clippers have also had more time to recover since their previous encounter.

Nevertheless, New Orleans look better equipped to exploit their opponents' weaknesses. Mosley's team have shown significant improvement after a difficult start, and their offensive production has been considerably stronger than that of Los Angeles.

The Pelicans' ability to attack in transition could prove particularly important against a Clippers side that has struggled with turnovers. Williamson's physical presence, Fears' growing confidence and Murray's experience should give the visitors several ways to create scoring opportunities.

New Orleans are far from perfect defensively, so another close contest is possible. However, their superior recent form, greater offensive productivity and stronger momentum make them an attractive choice to secure an away victory.

Prediction: New Orleans Pelicans to win.
