Armenia endured a disappointing 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, managing to collect only three points throughout the entire group stage thanks to an away victory over Ireland. However, their results against Hungary and Portugal were negative. In fact, they suffered a crushing 9–1 defeat to Portugal in their final qualifying match. Things did not improve during the March friendlies either, as Armenia lost to Belarus and played out a draw with Kazakhstan.
Moldova also failed to qualify for the World Cup, and their performances were equally underwhelming. The Moldovans picked up just one point from eight qualifying matches and once again missed out on a place at the tournament. Their results in March friendlies were also disappointing, with defeats to Lithuania and Cyprus. A few days ago, however, they managed to earn a 2–2 draw against Bulgaria.
