Today in Melbourne, Australia, commenced one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world – the Australian Open. In one of the first-round matches on the court, former WTA ranking leader and 2018 Australian Open champion, currently ranked 252nd in the world, Danish player Caroline Wozniacki, faced the 24th-ranked Polish player Magda Linette.

Wozniacki secured her place in the first round through a wildcard and immediately demonstrated that she has not lost her playing prowess. In the opening set, the Dane committed no errors, claiming three out of four games on her serves, matching her opponent's tally. Linette, on the other hand, had a fault on serve and committed a double fault. Consequently, the set concluded with Caroline triumphing 6-2.

The second set lasted a mere nine minutes. Linette started on serve and lost her service game. Wozniacki then won the second game without conceding a point to her opponent. Subsequently, Magda took a medical timeout, but after receiving medical assistance, she announced her inability to continue the match.

In the final game, Linette, visibly emotional, played with tears in her eyes. Unable to endure the pain, she made the decision to concede victory to her opponent and withdraw from the tournament. Caroline Wozniacki will advance to the second round, where she will face the 144th-ranked player in the world, Maria Timofeeva.
