Will Ronaldo play at the 2030 World Cup? Jorge Jesus responds
Jorge Jesus has no intention of looking four years into the future.
Details: Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus was asked about Cristiano Ronaldo and the possibility of the legendary forward featuring at the 2030 World Cup. Instead of making any long-term predictions about the captain's international future, the Portuguese coach made it clear that his attention is focused entirely on the team's immediate challenge.
“I understand the questions, that's part of it, but are we already going to 2030? That's FOUR YEARS AWAY... Football is day by day, it isn't even month by month. The match is the most important thing. There is no point diverting the subject. The problem right now is called NORWAY.”
The timing of the question is particularly notable because Ronaldo's future with Portugal has once again become one of the main topics surrounding the national team. The 41-year-old captain recently left the Portugal camp amid his high-profile disagreement with Jesus, while the Portuguese Football Federation is reportedly trying to create the conditions for talks between the two sides.
For Jesus, however, the sporting priority is clear. Portugal's next opponent is Norway in the fourth round of UEFA Nations League A. The Portuguese enter the match with nine points from their first three games, while Norway have collected three points.
It is worth noting that Ronaldo remains the all-time record holder in men's international football for Portugal, with 146 goals in 234 appearances.
