Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz did not hold back in his criticism of VAR following the Black Stars' 0-0 draw against England in their Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The experienced tactician was left frustrated after two controversial decisions went against his side, claiming Ghana were denied a clear penalty while England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford escaped a red card.

The most contentious moment came in the second half when Pickford collided with Ghana forward Prince Adu just outside the penalty area. Despite strong appeals from the Black Stars, match officials allowed play to continue, with neither the referee nor VAR taking further action.

Speaking after the match, the Ghana coach also questioned VAR's failure to intervene, using a memorable phrase that quickly grabbed attention.

“Once again, the VAR went for coffee,” Queiroz said during his post-match press conference. “It’s a clear penalty and a red card. Do you have any doubts about that, or am I the only one who was at the game?”
