England head coach Thomas Tuchel has backed Jude Bellingham following the heated altercation involving the midfielder and members of Ghana's coaching staff during Tuesday's goalless World Cup draw.

Tensions flared late in the first half after Bellingham was involved in a physical exchange with Ghana defender Jerome Opoku. The situation escalated as players and coaching staff made their way toward the tunnel at halftime, with the Real Madrid star becoming involved in a confrontation with Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz and his backroom team.

Speaking after the match, Tuchel defended his midfielder, insisting the England star was simply standing up for himself and his teammates.

“It was an exchange of emotions, and Jude stood up for himself and his team,” Tuchel said. “Emotions are a part of the game, but we don’t want to get distracted with stuff that could distract us.”
