Tigres Close In on Ángel Correa Signing, Nicolás Ibáñez Could Be the Odd Man Out

Tigres UANL are making waves in the transfer market even before the Clausura 2025 ends, with reports from Monterrey indicating that Argentine forward Ángel Correa is on the verge of joining the club from Atlético de Madrid. The deal is reportedly worth around $6 million, as the player seeks a fresh start after a title-less season in Spain.
Correa, 30, has played over 460 matches for Atlético since joining in 2015, becoming one of the most capped foreign players in the club’s history. With limited minutes and a shift in the team's offensive structure, his departure now seems inevitable.
However, his arrival in Mexico would likely mean an exit for another forward in Tigres’ crowded attacking lineup. According to Luis David Quezada, the most likely candidate is Nicolás Ibáñez, whose underwhelming spell at Tigres contrasts sharply with his golden boot-winning stint at Pachuca.
With André-Pierre Gignac still sidelined, Tigres are looking to bring in a proven scorer who can make a difference in crucial matches. If finalized, Correa’s signing would be a major statement ahead of the next Liga MX campaign.
