In Italy's Serie A, there might be a change in the number of participants from 20 to 18, and informal discussions on this matter have already commenced.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, this initiative is being proposed by the top clubs in the Italian division. They are seeking to play fewer matches in the championship due to the altered format of the Champions League. However, the rest of the elite Italian division participants don't support such an idea.

For such a decision to be made, clubs need to secure at least 14 out of 20 votes in favor.

Currently, Serie A comprises 20 teams. The last time the number of league participants was changed was in 2004 when the Italian championship expanded from 18 to 20 teams.

Napoli holds the current country title. After 19 rounds of the ongoing Italian league, Inter leads, holding a two-point lead over Juventus.
