The Strongest claimed a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Bolívar on Sunday at Estadio Hernando Siles, closing the gap to just two points behind league leaders Always Ready. According to El País, the result positions The Strongest as a true title contender at the end of the 11th matchday of Bolivia’s top division.
Despite being severely depleted—with seven key players out due to injuries and suspensions—Bolívar struck first. At minute 40, Patricio Rodríguez danced past three defenders and delivered a pinpoint cross for Ervin Vaca to head home the opener. Vaca nearly doubled the lead minutes later, but his shot went straight at goalkeeper Rodrigo Banegas after a defensive mistake from Adrián Jusino.
Bolívar's backline looked disjointed throughout, forcing goalkeeper Carlos Lampe to repeatedly leave his line to neutralize threats. The disorganization was eventually punished by The Strongest in the second half.
The equalizer came at the 50th minute when Joel Amoroso fired a diagonal shot past Lampe, following a smart build-up that saw the ball swing from one flank to the other. Ten minutes later, Enrique Triverio completed the comeback with a powerful header off a corner, capitalizing on a static Bolívar defense.
The Strongest nearly added a third with a strike from José Flores that Lampe tipped onto the crossbar. The frustration only grew for Bolívar, as Patricio Rodríguez received a straight red card in stoppage time for an elbow on Sebastián Altamirano—a costly dismissal that adds to the team's woes.
With this win, The Strongest not only takes the city’s bragging rights but also strengthens its position in the title race. Bolívar, meanwhile, continues to stumble, plagued by inconsistency and tactical lapses at critical moments.
