In Italy, there existed a law officially known as the Decreto Crescita, allowing high-earning foreigners in the country to receive a 50% tax discount.

This law was considered a lucrative incentive to attract foreign footballers to Italian leagues. However, discussions within the Italian Council of Ministers led to the revocation of this law.

Unofficially dubbed the "Beckham Law", this decree drew its name from a similar rule introduced in Spain, where David Beckham was among the first to benefit, transitioning to Real Madrid in 2003. In Spain, taxes for foreigners were reduced even further, with English players subject to only a 24% tax rate.

This change could significantly impact all Italian leagues, primarily Serie A clubs. Teams in the top Italian division have criticized the proposal to terminate the agreement in recent months.

In November, AC Milan's CEO, Giorgio Furlani, stated:

"The repeal of the Decreto Crescita will lead to the destruction of Italian football."

Lazio President Claudio Lotito added:

"They [the government] will understand their mistake.

The state won't receive money either. Wouldn't it be better to attract a foreigner who pays taxes in Italy than someone who doesn't come and pay nothing, right? Our league will lose competitiveness!"

The transfer market in Italy opens tomorrow, and undoubtedly, this change will already be impacting the projected player transfers to Serie A teams.
