After a disappointing performance in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has decided to change the direction of the national team's development.

Today, the NFF's official website announced that Nigeria's head coach, Finidi George, has been dismissed.

The name of the new head coach has not yet been disclosed, but it is known that Finidi George will continue to work within the coaching staff as an assistant.

Finidi George replaced José Peseiro as the head coach of the Nigerian national team, under whom the "Super Eagles" reached the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Under George's leadership, Nigeria lost 1-2 to Benin and drew 1-1 with South Africa. After four rounds, Nigeria occupies only fifth place in their qualifying group, having secured 3 points from 4 matches.
