"His game is a real pleasure". Gündogan shared his expectations from the confrontation with Yamal

Germany midfielder İlkay Gündoğan shared his expectations ahead of the match against his Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal in the UEFA Euro 2024 quarterfinals between Germany and Spain.

The match between the Bundesliga team and La Roja will take place on Friday, July 5th.

"Yamal? What makes him special is that he plays at a very, very high level already at the age of 16. It's truly a pleasure to watch him play and see the mature football he displays. Of course, he still has a lot to learn, but at 16, he already knows how to do things that are simply astonishing.

Expectations for the match against Spain? There is no reason why we shouldn't be confident. We have an excellent team, we have clear plans and ideas that we effectively implement on the field. Additionally, our connections within the team are well-established. On the field, everyone understands each other perfectly.

I think the key will be how we or they handle the moments when we don't have possession of the ball. Whoever doesn't panic, stays calm, and waits for the opportunity to regain possession and make the most of it will be crucial," Gündoğan told UEFA.

Spain and Germany will start their match on July 5th at 18:00 Central European Time.
