The Bundesliga club has announced the coach's departure. He had been leading the team since 2011
The German Bundesliga club, SC Freiburg, has announced the departure of head coach Christian Streich at the end of the season.
As reported on the official website, the German coach will not be extending his contract with Freiburg, which concludes at the end of the current season.
"I have thought about this for a long time. We have talked a lot. For me, it has always been very, very important not to miss the moment when it's time to go. This club is my life. I am extremely grateful for the enormous support and affection that I have always received," stated Streich.
In the summer of 2011, Streich became the assistant to the new head coach of Freiburg, Marcus Sorg. In December of the same year, Sorg was dismissed due to poor results (3 wins in 17 matches), and on December 29, Streich became the new head coach of the team. Under his leadership, Freiburg played 481 matches and secured 193 victories. Freiburg, under Streich's guidance, reached the round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League twice and once played in the final of the DFB-Pokal.
By the way, the German Bundesliga representative Wolfsburg has decided on its next head coach. Austrian specialist Ralf Hasenhüttl has been appointed as the team's coach.
