Another shocking case of violence against a referee has occurred in Italy, this time in the province of Udine during a Serie C futsal match.
Details: According to Sky Sport, the incident took place during the sixth round match between Calcetto Clark Udine and Manzano C5, held in Chiusaforte (Udine). It all began when Clark player Grance Shimba Olamba first received a yellow card and was then sent off.
Enraged by the decision, the player began insulting and threatening the referee, forcing the match to be paused for several minutes. He then left the pitch, but during the break between the first and second halves, he waited for referee Stefano Tomazettiga near the locker rooms and punched him in the face, knocking him unconscious. The assault occurred despite attempts from teammates to restrain him.
After the blow, the referee fell to the ground and hit his head. He was given first aid on site and then taken to hospital for examination. According to doctors, the referee is expected to recover within several days. The match was abandoned, and two subsequent fixtures scheduled for that day were cancelled.
The attacker tried to escape after the incident, fleeing into fields near the sports complex. Calcetto Clark Udine president Giancarlo Tirindelli announced that the player has been immediately expelled from the team. His actions will be reviewed by sports authorities, and criminal proceedings are also possible.
Reminder: 15 players were hospitalized after a gas leak at a volleyball match in Catania.
