In a pioneering move, the Tanzanian Immigration service has officially granted citizenship to three foreign players in a bid to boost the country’s football scene.

Among the newly naturalized players are: Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Ayekeh, Ivorian defender Arthur Bada, and Guinean midfielder Mohamed Damaro Camara.

The addition of Bada to the national team is a particularly notable addition, as he joins Tanzanian star Feisal Salum to form a promising attacking line up for the Taifa Stars. The duo will be pivotal in the Africa Cup of Nations in August and the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The move benefits Singida Black Stars, who have been looking for innovative ways to comply with the league’s cap on foreign players. By retaining talents such as Ayike, Bada and Kamara as Tanzanian players, the club has opened up the door to new foreign signings, signalling its ambition to achieve sustainable competitiveness.

Paul Msele, the federation’s general supervisor, stressed that this announcement is a strategic shift for Tanzanian football. The statement read: “The aforementioned players applied for citizenship in accordance with Tanzanian law and were granted citizenship.”
