Stellenbosch FC signs Orlando Pirates' Tshegofatso Mabasa on loan until the end of the Betway Premiership season as they plan to climb the PSL table
Tshegofatso Mabasa has joined Stellenbosch FC on loan from Orlando Pirates until the end of the season.
The striker leaves Pirates after a turbulent stay at the MTN8 and Carling Cup Champions which saw him play a limited role at the club this season.
This has been a frustrating campaign for the left-footed striker who scored a record 50 goals this season for the Sea Robbers.
That feat looked to have made him a darling among the fans and the club management but his lack of game time proved otherwise.
There were rumours of interest from Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in the striker but it seems that has failed.
A player of Mabasa’s calibre does deserve a look at big teams such as Chefs and Sundowns given his pedigree.
An interesting twist to this though is that Mabasa’s deal at Pirates expires in June and by law, he is allowed to negotiate with a club of his choice on a pre-contract.
His arrival at Stellies comes with a responsibility of scoring goals to move the side away from the relegation quagmire as Stellies are third from bottom.
He arrives at the Cape Winelands under coach Gavin Hunt who joined this month after long serving coach Steve Barker left for Tanzania’s Simba FC.
