Gavin Hunt’s mission to see Stellenbosch FC move away from the relegation quagmire starts this evening.

Hunt and his Stellies troops are away to Sekhukhune United in Limpopo for a Betway Premiership encounter with one aim of climbing the PSL table.

Stellenbosch FC are third from bottom and start a new era under Hunt as long serving coach Steve Barker left them for Tanzanian side Simba FC earlier this month.

Hunt’s immediate task needs no questions as the Cape Winelands club was not as clinical in their display this season.

This made them lose touch with the PSL pace setters as they found themselves floundering in the standings.

Upon Hunt’s arrival, Stellies have signed Tshegofatso Mabasa, Musa Lebusa and Kobamelo Kodisang in a bid to boost their chances of PSL survival.

All three players are of high calibre with Mabasa signing on loan from Orlando Pirates and the duo of Lebusa and Kodisang arrive from Sundowns.

While Kodisang and Mabasa are on loan from their respective parent clubs, their experience in the game will surely be a boost for Hunt’s aim of improving the club’s position.

However, Sekhukhune United will not be a walk in the park as they also bolstered their sides with quality signings.

Among the players signed by Babina Noko, of note ahead of tonight’s match at Peter Mokaba Stadium, is Lehlohonolo Mojela who was a Stellies player.

Eric Tinkler’s men are third on the table and have seen themselves as potential PSL winners this season and maximum points is their end goal.

A win for them will see them equal on points with second placed Orlando Pirates with 28 points.

With this in mind, Hunt’s hopes of a positive start to his Stellenbosch tenure may not be expected to be a win.

The match starts at 7.30pm.
