Gavin Hunt identifies the position Betway Premiership side Stellenbosch FC need reinforcements in to fully compete in the PSL and in Caf competition
Gavin Hunt has identified three areas which need reinforcing at Stellenbosch FC.
Hunt said they need a striker, a winger and also in defence.
Hunt secured a debut win as a Stellies coach after they beat Sekhukhune United 1-0 at Peter Mokaba Stadium last night.
Newly-signed marksman Tshegofatso Mabasa scored the solitary goals for the Cape Winelands side to see them move from 14th place to 13th on the PSL standings.
“We’re short upfront as you can see,” said Hunt.
“I mean, I played Devin Titus up front tonight he was magnificent. We’ve only got two strikers. We need three or four, wide players as well. So all these type of areas, we’re looking and we’re working hard, where and how.”
“The January window is always the worst window to try and get players because people don’t want to let their players go. So we’ll try we’ll keep trying. But I’ve got to get the squad better and I’ve got to make the players better with what I’ve got, without crying too much.”
While Hunt managed to sign Masaba, Musa Lebusa and Kobamelo Kodisang in this window, the former Durban City coach decried the state of fitness the players arrived in.
“The problem when these players come from these clubs, they haven’t trained,” he noted.
“And they say they trained, but you know, they’ve got big squads, so they train on the side that’s not training. So when they come here same as Lebusa and KK. I’ve got CAF now to try and play them fit for the league. So play them fit like tonight he Mabasa went 70 minutes. I didn’t think he could go that far. But, I mean, he went 70 and we’ll try to play Lebusa when this guy is fit.”
