Gavin Hunt confirms he will not be bringing any new backroom staff members at Stellenbosch FC as his era starts on Tuesday against Sekhukhune United

Gavin Hunt has confirmed he will not be bringing any backroom staff at his new club Stellenbosch FC.

Hunt was recently appointed as Stellies coach and as it has been a trend that when a new coach starts a new job, they would bring their own assistant and a goalkeeper coach.

But Hunt confirmed he will work with the staff who assisted departed Stellies coach Steve Barker.

Wesley Sergel and Evangelos Vellios worked as Barker’s assistant coaches and they retain their jobs under Hunt as well.

“It came up in a discussion, and maybe the other candidates, wanted to bring five, six people in. But obviously, having known a lot of the people here, the CEO, Wes, Van, goalkeeping coach, knowing these guys, those are key guys for me, because I know them, and they’re good people.” Hunt told a press conference.

“That’s important for me, good human beings first, what I’m saying, and a lot of knowledge as well, which is helpful to me and helpful to the club.

“That’s important for me, the rest of the people. I mean, obviously Liam and these guys, the media, obviously, that’s all part and parcel of it. And I’ll get to meet everybody, but the people that you work with on a daily basis is vitally important.

“So, yeah, I see no reason. I mean, not that I said this is going to be the end.“

Hunt’s immediate task at the Cape Winelands club is to steer them away from the drop zone as they are third from the bottom.

They resume their league programme against Sekhukhune United on Tuesday where Hunt is expected to give a glimpse of what is to come from his time at the club.
