Singapore Grand Prix 2024: date, time and where to watch the Formula 1 race
This week, the 2024 Formula 1 season continues with the Singapore Grand Prix, starting on Friday, September 20.
Singapore Grand Prix 2024: what to know about the tournament?
The Grand Prix races were previously held in Singapore from 1961 to 1973, though they were not part of the official Formula 1 World Championship calendar. Until 1965, when Singapore gained independence, the event was known as the Malaysian Grand Prix. After fatal incidents in the 1972 and 1973 races, the event was discontinued.
The Singapore Grand Prix has been a part of the Championship since 2008, taking place on a street circuit through the city-state of Singapore. It holds the distinction of being the first Formula 1 race in history to be held under artificial lighting.
The reigning champion is Carlos Sainz of Ferrari, while the most decorated driver is Sebastian Vettel, with five victories to his name.
