UEFA has confirmed a sensational scenario in which even the seventh-placed team in this season's Premier League could clinch a spot in next year's Champions League.
Details: However, a series of conditions in European competitions must align, with Liverpool and Aston Villa playing the lead roles.
According to UEFA regulations, England will receive an extra Champions League berth if:
- Aston Villa wins the Europa League but finishes the domestic campaign in either 5th or 6th place.
- Liverpool wins the Champions League while also finishing 5th or 6th in the Premier League standings.
If both these triumphs in European competitions coincide with the specified league positions, the allocation of spots will shift, allowing the coveted ticket to Europe's premier tournament to go to the team finishing seventh.
Right now, the battle for European places in England is reaching fever pitch. Brentford currently occupies seventh, but Everton is not far behind.
Reminder: UEFA has launched an official investigation into the injury of Galatasaray striker Noa Lang.
