37-year-old Sergio Ramos has become the most prolific defender in the history of the Champions League.

The experienced defender netted against Lens in the final match of the tournament's group stage, converting a penalty. This goal marked the 17th for the former Real Madrid player in this prestigious club tournament, setting a record among players in his position.

Ramos now tops the list for the most goals in the Champions League among defenders, surpassing former Barcelona player Gerard Piqué and his former Real Madrid teammate Roberto Carlos, both with 16 goals each.

It took Ramos 142 matches in the Champions League to achieve this goal-scoring feat. From 2005 to 2021, Sergio represented Real Madrid, securing the title four times. From 2021 to 2023, he defended the colors of PSG.

However, Ramos' historic achievement couldn't secure a much-needed win for Sevilla. They suffered a 1-2 defeat, ending the group stage with just two points and securing the bottom position in Group B. This means Sevilla won't even play in the Europa League in the spring, a tournament they've won seven times in their history.
