Sergio Canales Out for Clausura Finale After Injury in Locker Room Dispute

Sergio Canales will miss the remainder of the 2025 Clausura after suffering a muscle injury following a locker room altercation with Monterrey head coach Martín Demichelis, according to a statement from the club. Rayados disclosed that the Spanish midfielder sustained a myotendinous edema in his right soleus muscle after aggravating the area during training on Sunday, April 13.
The origin of the injury traces back to April 4, when Canales reportedly kicked a glass door in frustration after a heated exchange with Demichelis. The incident left him needing stitches and already sidelined him for recent matches against Guadalajara and Tigres UANL. Monterrey has now confirmed he will also miss the upcoming clash against reigning champions Club América and is unlikely to feature in the season finale against León.
The club’s medical team emphasized that the recovery timeline will depend on how the injury evolves. This uncertainty adds to the tension within the squad as Monterrey fights for a playoff spot. With Canales playing a central role in the team’s attack, his absence poses a significant setback just as the tournament reaches its crucial stages.
The altercation and subsequent injury have drawn internal concern, as Demichelis navigates both competitive pressure and locker room dynamics. For now, Rayados must move forward without one of their key leaders in what promises to be a high-stakes conclusion to the Clausura.
