Sekhunekhune United and former Bafana Bafana midfielder Thabang Monare: I believe we can go all the way at this year's Africa Cup of Nations
Thabang Monare has added his voice to those who believe Bafana Bafana can win this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Orlando Pirates and now Sekhukhune FC midfielder won bronze with Bafana in the previous edition in Ivory Coast and believes Bafana have what it takes to do well in Morocco.
Monare’s belief is based on the fact that Bafana have some players from the previous tournament this time around.
Rownen Williams, Teboho Mokoena, Khuliso Mudau, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Sphephelo Sithole, and Evidence Makgopa are some of the players who were there when Bafana finished third in West Africa.
“Well, I think most of the guys who were there in the previous AFCON tournament are there. They will give proper advice to the debutantes,” said Monare.
“But I think they will do well. However, what I can say to them is: ‘all the best, let’s just work hard’. We have a good squad and good individual players. I believe we can go all the way.
“This was proven in the last tournament. We got to play against top players from around the African continent and Europe. It was a great learning experience, and I think the debutantes will get to experience it this year. We ended up on the podium, and that was one of the best moments.”
Bafana face Angola today at 7pm at the Stade de Marrakesh in their opening Group B Afcon match.
