Hugo Broos does not see Bafana Bafana failing to protect a lead in their upcoming matches at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Broos said Bafana’s failure to protect the lead was unexpected and it’s something that should not happen.

Angola’s unique style of play is something which Broos attributed to their failure to ensure they don’t concede as the Palancas Negras’ Show netted via a cheeky back-heel not long after Oswin Appollis gave Bafana the lead.

“When you start the tournament, the players will also feel how things are going,” said Broos.

“We played against the Angola that plays differently from ‘African football’, it’s technical football and it’s passing football.

“For us, we were a little bit surprised after the goal we scored. We thought things are done, but it was a wake-up call, and I wake the players also at half-time.

“The players knew that if we continued to play like that, we were going to lose the game.

“I know these guys, it will not happen anymore, it was just lucky for us that we win this game so that we don’t have damage. So, it will not happen anymore.”

Bafana next face Egypt at the Stade Adrar in Agadir on Friday.
