Osaka shared that she arranged for someone to retrieve her daughter Shai's birth certificate to protect it from potential destruction by the fires.
"I looked at the fire map and saw the flames were about three blocks from my house. So, I hired someone to go and grab my daughter's birth certificate and other important stuff because I didn’t know what would happen if it burned," Osaka explained.
Shai, born in July 2023, is the daughter of Osaka and rapper Cordae Amari Dunston, from whom she recently separated.
Despite the emotional strain and the difficulty concentrating due to the situation at home, Osaka managed to secure a three-set victory over French player Caroline Garcia in the first round, advancing to the next stage of the tournament.
