A major shock unfolded at the conclusion of the first-round action at the Australian Open.

Details: World No. 9 Andrey Rublev has exited the tournament in the opening round, marking a stunning upset.

The 27-year-old, competing without representing any country, lost in straight sets to 18-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca. The first and third sets went to tiebreaks, while Fonseca claimed the second set 6-3.

Remarkably, this was Fonseca’s debut match in a Grand Slam tournament. Ranked No. 112 in the ATP rankings, he earned his spot in the main draw through the qualifiers.

In the second round, Fonseca will face Italian Lorenzo Sonego, currently ranked No. 55 in the ATP rankings.

Reminder: Earlier today, Daniil Medvedev made headlines after smashing a net-mounted camera with his racket.
