SA football legend Benni McCarthy on Kaizer Chiefs slump and coaching job: They know where to find me if they want me to takeover as coach

Benni McCarthy has come out to avail himself for the Kaizer Chiefs coaching job.

McCarthy, South Africa’s golden football legend, is currently head coach of Kenya National Football team, with expectation of leading them to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

But the former Bafana Bafana striker has voiced out his availability for the Chiefs job should they, as he says, knock at his door.

Chiefs are coached by Ben Youssef Khalid and Cedric Kaze as co-coaches and are unlikely to continue beyond this season.

The speculation on who may take over is likely to be on the overdrive as McCarthy has just raised his hands.

“So, ‘what ifs,’ no. If they want, they know where I am, they know where to find me, how to contact me, to make it happen. But if not, it’s just the rumours,” said McCarthy on Marawa Sports Worldwide.

“That’s football [3-0 Soweto Derby loss to Orlando Pirates], in football things happen. I can understand their frustrations because derby day is massive and important, and I think they didn’t cover themselves in glory after the weekend,” said McCarthy on Marawa Sports Worldwide.

“But they are a good team, very good players. If nobody came knocking on my door, that means that they are happy. You are happy with what you have because if you come and knock on someone’s door, you approach them [it means you are interested].

“There is a lot of ‘what ifs.’ They don’t exist to me because I have been in plenty of situations, even with Orlando Pirates. Very close to managing Pirates after my playing career and then nothing materialised.”
