Ronwen Williams: Mohamed Salah penalty was a soft one but we continue to build and believing in ourselves by also working hard
Ronwen Williams has described Egypt’s penalty as a ‘soft’ one.
Williams failed to stop the spot-kick by Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah in Friday’s Group B match in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The controversial kick was after a tussle between Salah and Bafana defender Khuliso Mudau was given by VAR.
As the sun set at Stade de Adra in Agadir, Bafana’s chances of a decent finish in the group went with it as Bafana now have to ensure they get a positive result against Zimbabwe tomorrow.
“We’re disappointed, the objective in this game was not to lose, we wanted to win or get a point to secure qualification but it wasn’t to be,” Williams told SuperSport TV.
“We feel bad because lots of decisions were made on the field.
“I think it was a soft penalty and obviously when you look at the other side towards the end we strongly feel that we should’ve gotten our own penalty but you know that’s how football is.
“We take the lessons, we take the good things and we move, continue believing in this team.”
