River Plate has secured an unexpected financial boost thanks to Agustín Palavecino’s standout performances in Mexico. As reported by La Pagina Millonaria, Necaxa officially activated the purchase clause for the Argentine midfielder, who had been on loan since June 2024. With 31 appearances, six goals, and six assists in Liga MX, Palavecino has become a key figure in the team, prompting the club to finalize a permanent deal.
The transfer was completed for a total of $3.6 million gross, with River receiving $2.34 million for their 65% ownership of the player’s rights. The remainder was split between Platense, which earned $600,000, and Colombian side Deportivo Cali. The move comes as a welcome surprise for River, especially considering Palavecino had fallen out of favor during his time in Argentina.
While his performances in Mexico have been consistent and impactful, his spell at River was marked by inconsistency and limited playing time. What once seemed like a low-profile exit has now turned into a profitable transaction for the Argentine giants.
With Palavecino now permanently off their books, River still has four players out on loan: David Martínez (Inter Miami), Andrés Herrera (Columbus Crew), Oswaldo Valencia (Deportivo Cúcuta), and Adam Bareiro (Al Rayyan). Palavecino’s transfer might set a precedent for how River manages future loaned players, especially in international markets.
