The city of Quillota has officially denied the use of the Lucio Fariña Stadium for the Copa Chile match between Deportes Limache and Colo Colo, according to Radio Cooperativa. The match, initially scheduled for May 10 as part of Group B's final round, must now be relocated.
Mayor Luis Mella justified the decision by referencing recent violent incidents during a Copa Libertadores game and expressing concern from local residents. “Our city has always welcomed clubs from across the country, but due to recent events and community feedback, we decided not to authorize the use of the stadium,” he stated.
The restriction also extends to the match between Santiago Wanderers and Unión San Felipe, set for May 12 at the same venue. Both clubs are now left searching for new venues.
“I stand with our community and am open to hosting clubs that demonstrate responsible behavior. This decision reflects our municipal policy,” Mella added, confirming that Limache officials were personally informed and understood the rationale.
Meanwhile, the Primera División match between Limache and Colo Colo, scheduled for May 2 at Nicolás Chahuán Nazar Stadium in La Calera, remains unchanged.
