João Mário has spent just one season in Turin.

Details: Fiorentina and Juventus have agreed on a loan deal for the Portuguese defender João Mário. According to Sky, the agreement includes a buy option, but it is not mandatory—La Viola will decide in the summer whether to keep the player or send him back to Turin.

The medical examination is scheduled for Monday, after which the defender will sign his papers and join the team. Negotiations between the clubs lasted over a week: initially, the Florence side sent an official offer to Turin in the region of €8–9 million, but in the end, the parties agreed on a loan with a purchase option.

The reason is simple: the Juventus coaching staff did not see a place for the Portuguese in their plans. The Bianconeri signed him last summer from Porto for around €13 million, handing him a contract until 2030, but he never managed to secure a regular spot in the starting XI. Last season, the defender made just 28 appearances across all competitions: 13 for Juventus and another 15 on loan at Bologna, where he scored both of his goals.

It’s worth noting that Fiorentina have already had a very active transfer campaign this summer, spending over €90 million on new signings. According to Transfermarkt, João Mário's transfer value is estimated at around €8.5 million.

Reminder: Unexpected move! Fiorentina snatches Juventus player.
