Infantino is losing his footing! Federations are massively withdrawing their support
Infantino's seat is truly starting to wobble.
Details: Numerous national federations within UEFA are poised to retract their written guarantees of support for Gianni Infantino. Aleksander Ceferin is personally striving to ensure a complete withdrawal, and similar moves are expected soon from several CONCACAF members.
These are documents that associations signed in support of the incumbent president ahead of the elections. If the withdrawal becomes widespread, Infantino risks approaching the vote without the formal backing he was counting on.
The conflict erupted over the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, which envisioned selling a stake in a new commercial structure—worth around $20 billion—to private investors. On July 30, all 55 European federations backed a boycott of FIFA tournaments, CONCACAF soon followed suit, and on August 1, Infantino officially announced the project had been shelved.
Yet the retreat failed to defuse the situation: across Europe, there’s now open discussion of an alternative candidate for the FIFA presidency, and UEFA, according to media reports, is even exploring a backup plan for its own global tournament. It's worth noting Infantino has led FIFA since 2016 and, until recently, was considered the uncontested favorite for re-election—his candidacy was even publicly endorsed by CAF back in April.
Reminder: Football on the brink of division! All 55 UEFA federations ready to boycott FIFA World Cups.
