Barcelona has decided there’s no need to panic over Álvarez.

Details: The Catalan side has no intention of rushing into new signings if Julián Álvarez’s transfer proves impossible. The club believes their squad has already been strengthened—with Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon joining the ranks.

This marks a significant shift in tone. All summer, Barcelona had been putting pressure on Atlético: first, the Madrid club agreed to sit down at the negotiating table under pressure from the striker himself; then Joan Laporta set a deadline for the deal, while the Argentine insisted the club fulfill its promise to him. At one point, even a contract termination through the courts was considered.

Meanwhile, the Catalans were exploring backup attacking options: Bournemouth’s forward Junior Kroupi was on their radar—a player also of interest to Manchester City. Now, however, the club is making it clear: they won’t spend for the sake of spending.

It’s also worth noting that Laporta has publicly emphasized: the arrivals of Gordon and Adeyemi do not signal Raphinha’s departure—the Brazilian remains a key figure in the project. As for Álvarez, his contract with Atlético runs through 2030, and Transfermarkt values the Argentine at €100 million a sum Barcelona simply couldn’t meet.

Reminder: Barcelona finds a backup option: deal for Álvarez close to collapse.
