Portugal's top club pay €20m for Eredivisie top scorer

Benfica faced significant problems in attack last season, even in the Portuguese league matches, with the absence of a prolific central forward being one of the main reasons. The club has now found a solution to this issue.

Today, Benfica officially announced the signing of Greek forward Vangelis Pavlidis from AZ Alkmaar. The player has signed a contract with the "Eagles" until the summer of 2029, and the transfer fee was 20 million euros.

Pavlidis was the top scorer in the Eredivisie this season, alongside Luuk de Jong, with 29 goals. He has also scored 6 goals in 38 matches for the Greek national team.

The 25-year-old forward will compete for a starting position with Marcos Leonardo and Arthur Cabral.

To recall, Benfica finished second in the Portuguese league and qualified for the Champions League next season.
