Lewis Turner, captain of Farsley Celtic, a club in the English sixth division, was urgently rushed to the hospital after collapsing during a third-round FA Cup match against Gateshead, reports Daily Mail.
Fortunately, the incident had a positive outcome: Turner regained consciousness at the hospital and was able to communicate. It is believed that the collapse was caused by cardiac arrest.
"Thanks to the superb professional work by the medical staff and paramedics Lewis was resuscitated and was taken to hospital. It is with great relief and happiness that we can report that Lewis is conscious and talking. We will provide further updates as and when it is appropriate to do so," stated an official release from Farsley Celtic.
The match, which was paused following the incident, will be completed at a later date.
This incident mirrors a similar episode in Serie A earlier this season, when Fiorentina player Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch during a game against Inter Milan due to cardiac arrest. Bove is now set to receive a pacemaker, which will prevent him from playing in Italy.
