Oswin Appollis' penalty secures Bafana Bafana a place in the last-16 of the Africa Cup of Nations in a pulsating final Group B match against Zimbabwe
Oswin Appollis late penalty against Zimbabwe secured Bafana Bafana’s last-16 spot at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Appollis sent Zimbabwean goalkeeper Washing Arubi the wrong way in the last 10minutes of their last Group B match in Marrakesh after a VAR call gave Bafana the spot-kick.
The Warriors were not pushovers against Hug Broos’ men in this game as they were able to match Bafana pound for pound throughout the game won 3-2 by South Africa.
Tshepang Moremi and Lyle Foster scored the other goals for Bafana while Zimbabwe’s Tawanda Maswanhise and an own goal by Bafana left back Aubrey Modiba scored an own goal.
The win sees Bafana secure a place in the last-16 of the 35th edition of this Africa Cup of Nations spectacle taking place in Morocco.
Zimbabwe coach Mariana Marinica would be disappointed by this result as he was confident ahead of this game that they would cause an upset by beating Bafana.
