Mike Makaab reveals Mamelodi Sundowns' decision on Divine Lunga

Mamelodi Sundowns have moved to retain the services of Zimbabwean international Divine Lunga, offering the defender a one-year contract extension following his improved contributions this season. The decision comes as the Brazilians prepare for their upcoming FIFA Club World Cup campaign, with head coach Miguel Cardoso clearly viewing the 29-year-old as part of his plans.
Lunga's journey at Chloorkop has been one of perseverance. Since arriving from Golden Arrows in 2021, the left-back initially struggled to establish himself, resulting in a loan spell back to his former club during the 2022/23 season to regain match fitness. His return last season saw him make 13 appearances under then-coach Rulani Mokwena, but it's in the current campaign that he's truly flourished - featuring in 17 matches across all competitions and playing an instrumental role in Sundowns' run to the CAF Champions League final.
Veteran agent Mike Makaab confirmed the extension to FARPost, stating: "Devine Lunga will remain with Mamelodi Sundowns for another season after agreeing to a one-year contract renewal." The deal comes just as his previous contract was set to expire on June 30.
Sundowns have been busy securing their squad depth, having also finalized one-year extensions for utility player Mothobi Mvala and goalkeeper Jody February. Lunga's retention signals the club's faith in his continued development and his ability to contribute to their ambitious domestic and continental objectives in the coming season.
