Uruguayan striker Maximiliano Silvera, currently playing for Peñarol, revealed that his unselfish playing style has sparked repeated conversations within the squad. “My teammates keep telling me: ‘You need to be more selfish.’ I agree with them, but it’s just not how I play,” he said in an interview with La mañana del fútbol on El Espectador Deportes.

Silvera has scored six goals in 18 appearances this year, though the numbers don’t fully reflect his work rate. “I’m often the first to press. Sometimes I’m out of position, away from the box, and that takes away my chances to score. But that’s just how I play—giving everything for the team,” said the striker, who was previously coached by Diego Aguirre at Santos and was personally requested by him to join Peñarol.

Reflecting on a tough start to 2025, Silvera described it as “a storm” the team had to weather. “We didn’t know what was going on, but we never stopped believing in ourselves. Now we’re back on a good run, and the Libertadores is a real goal. We came close last year,” he added.

Individually, he turned down international offers to stay with the club and intends to honor his contract through December. “I talked it over with Diego and Nacho Ruglio. We agreed it was best to stay at least six more months. The club kept most of the squad together, and we’re building something strong again,” Silvera concluded.
