Marcos Rojo’s Boca Future in Doubt as Contract Nears End

Despite regaining form and reestablishing himself as a key player under Fernando Gago, Marcos Rojo’s future at Boca Juniors remains unclear. According to Minuto NQN, the former Manchester United defender’s contract is set to expire in December 2025, and the club’s board, led by Juan Román Riquelme, has yet to initiate talks over a renewal.
Although Rojo has returned to the starting lineup with solid performances, concerns persist over his injury history. He has already missed six matches this season due to physical issues, and those absences will be factored into the club’s evaluation.
The Football Council reportedly has no plans to negotiate any new contracts until after Boca’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup. Only once the tournament concludes will the board begin reviewing player situations, including Rojo’s.
Since joining Boca in February 2021, Rojo has made 114 appearances and lifted three trophies. While he enjoys a close relationship with Riquelme—who personally convinced him to join the club—the decision to offer an extension will consider more than just performance. Leadership qualities, injury history, and his role within Gago’s tactical setup will all influence the club’s final decision.
