The new head coach of the Malawi national team, Callisto Pasuwa, has been formally appointed by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM). With a two-year contract in hand, the 54-year-old Zimbabwean will try to turn the team around following their lack of AFCON 2025 qualification.
FAM President Fleetwood Haiya stated that the goal is to qualify for AFCON 2027. Pasuwa is also expected to win at least three of the six remaining 2026 World Cup qualifiers and aim for success in the COSAFA Cup.
Pasuwa is a four-time Zimbabwean league champion with Dynamos FC and previously coached Nyasa Big Bullets in Malawi. In AFCON qualifiers last year, he led the Flames to a 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso while serving as their interim coach.
Pasuwa placed a strong emphasis on player development, discipline, and teamwork. He wants Malawi to become a dominant force in African football by assembling a strong team. Soon, his backroom crew will be revealed.
