Kaizer Chifes football manager Bobby Motaung describes Sunday's Caf Confederation Cup match against Al Masry as a Cup final

Kaizer Chiefs run the risk of ending this season without a trophy.

Amakhosi were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday night when they lost 2-1 to Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town.

This meant they will not defend the trophy they won under former coach Nasredine Nabi last season.

Now, Chiefs have the Caf Confederation Cup and the Betway Premiership to aim for this season.

They are third on the PSL standings and have to beat Al Masry on Sunday to proceed to knockout stages of teh Caf Confederation Cup.

This Sunday they face Egyptian side Al Masry in the Caf Confederation Cup group game, a must win match if they are to proceed to the knockout stage of the continental competition.

Club Manager Bobby Motaung has cited the tight schedule of playing in three competitions as they main reason they lost against Stellies.

“It’s a tough one. We have been on a tight schedule with competitions. The League, the CAF Confederation Cup, and the Nedbank Cup. So we will now focus on the League and the Confederation Cup. We lost, and it’s out of the picture now,” Motaung said.

“It’s a Cup final for us on Sunday. We need to qualify and we need to be positive. We have been doing well so far up until the loss on Wednesday. So we have to regain our confidence and bounce back and be positive. For us, it’s very important. We want to go to the final of this Cup (Confederation Cup). We have this Cup to challenge for, and we have the League to challenge for.”
