Kaizer Chiefs beat Egyptian side Al Masry 2-1 in the Caf Confederation to go on top of Group D
Flavio Silva and Aiden McCarthy scored the goals for Kaizer Chiefs which saw Amakhosi top the table of Group D in the Caf Confederation Cup this afternoon.
Chiefs beat Egyptian side Al Masry at Polokwane’s New Peter Mokaba Stadium to top their group, with 10 points, under tremendous heat in Limpopo.
They had into the last group match against Zamalek in a comfortable position even though results of the coming weekend may change the current outlook of group D.
Silva’s goal was a penalty after on form Glody Lilepo was fouled inside the box in the first half by Al Masry captain Ahmed Mansour.
Algerian striker Abderrahim Deghmoum equalised for the visiting team in the second half when he beati Brandon Peterson from an acute angle.
But it was to be the home side’s day as Amakhosi restored their lead via defender Aiden McCarthy’s header from a rebound.
This result is a massive one for Chiefs as they were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup in midweek by Stellenbosch FC.
The Caf Confederation Cup provides them with an opportunity to win some silverware as they are yet to win one this season.
Next week they play Zamalek away in Egypt what will be a humdinger of a game in this competition.
