Kaizer Chiefs coach Ben Youssef Khalid: We have a central defensive problem as we are missing most of our defenders ahead of our clash against Zamalek
Kaizer Chiefs have a centre back problem.
This is according to Amakhosi co-coach Ben Youssef Khalid as the Naturena-based side are preparing for a monumental showdown against Egyptian giants in Zamalek this weekend.
Aiden McCarthy was booked yesterday in the 2-1 win over Al Masry which meant he misses the upcoming game in Egypt and Youssef Khalid has highlighted that their centre back challenge does not end with McCarthy
“Given has just come back after six months out of competition, so we are taking a big risk to play him for 90 minutes,” Ben Youssef said.
“Now he has played a full match and he must play another 90 minutes in the next game. We are taking a big risk because we don’t have centre-backs. We don’t have any other solution.”
Zitha Kwinika remains their only available and recognised central defender.
“Before three days, we lost Inácio Miguel, he get injury — maybe because of playing so many games,” he said.
“Today Aden McCarthy received a yellow card. So for the game in Egypt, which we must play to qualify, we only have Zitha as a centre-back. It’s not an excuse, but it’s the reality.”
