Uganda makes life difficult for themselves in the match against Nigeria.
Details: Today, in the final group stage match of AFCON Group C between Uganda and Nigeria, a bizarre incident unfolded.
In the 46th minute, Salim Magoola replaced Denis Onyango in goal for Uganda, but Magoola's time on the pitch would be short-lived.
By the 56th minute, Nigeria's striker Victor Osimhen broke through one-on-one with the Ugandan keeper and tried to flick the ball past him. However, Magoola made a split-second decision to simply block the ball with his hand—well outside the penalty area.
Given that this move is considered a flagrant violation of the rules for a goalkeeper, he was shown a straight red card and left the pitch just 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute.
As it stands, Nigeria leads the match 3-1, and Uganda is now all but certain to exit the Africa Cup of Nations.
