Uganda striker Uche Ikpeazu has reflected on his tough battle with Nigeria defender Calvin Bassey after the Super Eagles defeated the Cranes 3-1 in Morocco. Leading Uganda’s attack, Ikpeazu came up against Bassey, who played the first 45 minutes before being replaced at halftime.
The St. Johnstone forward admitted the duel was demanding, saying, “He played for 45 minutes… it was a good battle… very strong, lots to learn.” He added that Uganda’s task became harder after a late red card, noting, “I have done the best I could… especially going down to ten men.”
Ikpeazu described the defeat as a lesson, admitting Nigeria’s quality made the difference. “I tried my best… but we fell short… quality showed on their side,” he said, adding that he would be “rooting for Nigeria.”
