German side RB Leipzig found themselves in a truly surreal and dangerous situation during their promotional tour in Johannesburg.
Details: According to José I. Araoz, the Bulls’ commercial trip quickly turned into a real-life survival test. The city officially records one of the world’s highest murder rates, alongside staggering figures for armed robberies, carjackings, and kidnappings for ransom.
Due to the enormous threat to their safety, the hotel hosting the RB Leipzig delegation is currently under heavy armed guard. The German players are strictly forbidden from leaving the premises alone. Any trips to training are carried out exclusively under militarized escort: the team moves in protected convoys of armored vehicles, special transport, and motorcycle outriders.
The situation seems utterly absurd given the official warnings from authorities. While Germany’s Foreign Ministry strongly advises citizens to avoid downtown Johannesburg at all times, the German club’s management remains remarkably calm. In particular, RB Leipzig director Johann Plenge coolly stated that the club had always wanted to experience the real, tough side of South Africa.
Reminder: RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has caught the eye of Liverpool.
